When I first embarked on my career journey, recruitment wasn’t even on my radar. As a university student in Japan, I was deeply involved in organising the Global Business Case Competition (GBCC) during my third year. It was through this project that I first encountered Robert Walters, one of our sponsors. Little did I know that this initial connection would shape the trajectory of my professional life.
After graduating, I joined Robert Walters as a fresh-faced candidate eager to make an impact. What drew me to recruitment was the opportunity to connect with people, learn from their experiences, and play a meaningful role in helping both candidates and organisations achieve their goals. The idea of supporting someone’s career growth while contributing to business success resonated deeply with me.
Fast forward several years, and I found myself at a crossroads: should I continue building my career in Japan, where I had spent 10.5 years studying and working, or take the leap to relocate to Thailand? Although I am Thai by nationality, I hadn’t truly lived in Thailand before. The decision wasn’t easy, but two key motivations guided me - being closer to my family and embracing the challenge of exploring a new market in my home country.
Relocating to Thailand has been nothing short of transformative. My role as a recruitment consultant evolved significantly after the move. Transitioning from the automotive industry in Japan to focusing on infrastructure, automation, machinery, and renewable energy in Thailand was both exciting and daunting. The pace here is fast - some might call it a roller coaster - but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Thanks to the unwavering support of my team and management, I’ve been able to adapt quickly and continue learning every day.
Living and working in Thailand has brought its own unique rewards. While compensation may differ compared to Japan, being close to loved ones has been invaluable. Professionally, handling candidates and clients here has taught me new perspectives and approaches - it’s challenging yet fun.
The culture at Robert Walters has been instrumental in helping me navigate these changes. The company fosters an environment where you’re inspired by success stories while also learning how to handle rejection and overcome difficulties.
This international move has undoubtedly contributed to my growth. Adapting to a new work environment, culture, behaviours, and market dynamics has pushed me out of my comfort zone and motivated me to improve daily. At the same time, I’ve been able to leverage my foundational skills to further my career. Ultimately, what keeps me motivated is the people around me - the colleagues who share their expertise and inspire me every day. Moving back to Thailand has not only reconnected me with my roots but also opened doors to endless possibilities for growth and learning.
For anyone considering an international move for their career, my advice is simple: embrace the challenge. It’s tough but refreshing - a chance to grow personally and professionally while discovering new opportunities. Recruitment at Robert Walters offers just that - a dynamic environment where you can thrive.
