Head of Credit Risk Control (Securities)
A leading financial services organisation in Bangkok is seeking a Head of Credit Risk Control to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the firm’s interests within its securities brokerage operations. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to take on a senior leadership position, directly reporting to both the local Chief Operating Officer and regional headquarters. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of client credit risk, with a particular focus on margin lending exposure, ensuring robust controls are in place to protect against trading-related losses. The organisation offers a supportive and collaborative environment where your expertise in credit risk management will be highly valued, and your ability to communicate effectively in English will enable you to work seamlessly with colleagues across borders. If you are looking for a role that combines strategic oversight, hands-on risk management, and the chance to make a significant impact, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
What you'll do:
As Head of Credit Risk Control, you will be entrusted with end-to-end responsibility for managing client credit risk within a dynamic securities brokerage environment. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with multiple teams across the organisation as you oversee the approval of credit limits for margin trading accounts, monitor exposures in real time, and ensure prompt action is taken when clients approach or exceed their limits. You will also play an instrumental role in shaping credit policy in line with regulatory expectations while maintaining rigorous standards for portfolio quality. Regular reporting to both local leadership and regional headquarters will keep you at the centre of strategic decision-making. Success in this role requires not only technical expertise but also strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to build trust-based relationships across departments while upholding the highest standards of governance.
- Oversee the approval process for client credit limits, particularly for margin trading accounts, ensuring all decisions align with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor client exposures on an ongoing basis, paying close attention to concentration risks and collateral adequacy to maintain the integrity of the firm’s portfolio.
- Manage force sell and margin call processes by taking timely action when clients breach established limits or fail to meet collateral requirements.
- Develop and implement credit policies that are fully aligned with local regulatory standards such as those set by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand.
- Lead efforts to prevent bad debt and minimise potential losses arising from client defaults through proactive portfolio quality control measures.
- Coordinate closely with Front Office teams including sales and trading, as well as Risk and Compliance departments, fostering a culture of shared responsibility for risk management.
- Prepare detailed monthly reports for submission to regional headquarters in Singapore, providing clear insights into current exposures, emerging risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Act as a key point of contact for internal audits and regulatory reviews related to credit risk control activities within the brokerage business.
- Continuously review and enhance existing risk frameworks to adapt to changing market conditions and evolving business needs.
What you bring:
To excel as Head of Credit Risk Control, your background should include substantial experience in managing credit risk within securities brokerage environments—particularly those involving margin lending. Your understanding of regulatory frameworks governing credit activities will allow you to develop policies that not only meet compliance requirements but also support sustainable business growth. You will bring advanced analytical abilities that help you interpret complex data sets related to client exposures while remaining vigilant about emerging risks. Your communication skills—especially in English—will be vital as you prepare detailed reports for regional leadership and engage constructively with colleagues across different functions. A collaborative approach is essential; your success depends on building strong partnerships throughout the organisation so that everyone shares responsibility for effective risk management.
- Extensive experience managing credit risk within a securities brokerage or similar financial institution, ideally with direct exposure to margin lending operations.
- Proven track record of setting and enforcing credit policies that comply with local regulations such as those issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand.
- Strong analytical skills enabling you to assess client exposures accurately, identify concentration risks, and evaluate collateral adequacy under varying market conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage force sell processes and margin calls efficiently while maintaining positive relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills in English are essential for preparing reports for regional headquarters and collaborating effectively with cross-border teams.
- Experience working closely with Front Office functions (sales/trading), Risk Management, Compliance, and other support departments within a financial services context.
- Familiarity with portfolio quality control techniques aimed at preventing bad debt or minimising losses from client defaults.
- Comfortable operating at senior management level with direct reporting lines to C-suite executives both locally and internationally.
- A collaborative mindset that supports knowledge-sharing, teamwork, and continuous improvement across all areas of responsibility.
