Head of Credit Risk

Save job

A unique opportunity has arisen for an accomplished professional to step into the role of Head of Credit Risk within a rapidly expanding fintech platform based in Bangkok, Thailand. This pivotal position offers you the chance to architect and lead the entire credit risk function, driving both strategic direction and operational excellence across the business.

As a key member of the leadership team, you will be entrusted with full accountability for risk strategy, model governance, and portfolio performance - ensuring that every aspect of credit risk aligns seamlessly with regulatory requirements and supports sustainable business growth. The organisation is committed to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, advanced analytics, and data-driven decision-making, providing you with the autonomy to introduce next-generation methodologies and shape the future of credit risk management. With a focus on flexibility, knowledge sharing, and professional development, this role promises not only significant influence but also the opportunity to make a lasting impact in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic fintech environments.

  • Take full ownership of the end-to-end credit risk agenda within a high-growth fintech platform, influencing commercial decisions at the highest level while embedding advanced analytics throughout the credit lifecycle.
  • Enjoy a collaborative environment where your expertise in regulatory compliance, IFRS 9/ECL modelling, and innovative risk frameworks will be valued by senior stakeholders and executive leadership alike.
  • Benefit from flexible working opportunities and a strong commitment to training and capability building, ensuring your continued professional growth as you mentor and develop a high-performing team.

What you'll do:

As Head of Credit Risk, you will play an instrumental role in shaping how credit risk is managed as both a safeguard and strategic enabler for business growth. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you collaborating closely with senior leadership to define comprehensive strategies that span every stage of the credit lifecycle - from origination through portfolio management to provisioning. You will be responsible for ensuring that all frameworks are not only compliant with evolving regulatory standards but also agile enough to support rapid innovation within the fintech landscape. By leveraging advanced analytics tools and introducing cutting-edge methodologies such as AI/ML-driven models or alternative data sources, you will drive continuous improvement in predictive accuracy and decision speed. Your ability to translate complex analytics into actionable insights will empower commercial teams to make informed decisions that balance profitability with prudent risk management. In addition to technical oversight, you will foster a culture of knowledge sharing by mentoring your team members into future leaders while institutionalising best practices through structured documentation and ongoing training. Representing the credit risk function at executive forums means your communication skills will be vital in aligning strategies with long-term organisational resilience.

  • Define and operationalise an enterprise-wide credit risk strategy that spans origination, portfolio management, provisioning, and aligns with ambitious growth targets as well as capital efficiency goals.
  • Establish and continuously evolve forward-looking risk appetite frameworks that reflect both regulatory expectations and market dynamics within the fast-moving fintech sector.
  • Own the design, enhancement, and governance of IFRS 9/ECL methodologies - including staging, SICR, PD, LGD, CCF - and ensure strict adherence to all relevant regulations and internal policies.
  • Drive automation and scalability across provisioning processes while acting as the senior authority on all matters related to model methodology and audit compliance.
  • Lead governance over application scoring models and acquisition strategies by overseeing recalibration efforts that respond to changing customer behaviour and portfolio trends.
  • Partner closely with commercial and product teams to optimise risk-return trade-offs at origination while establishing robust contingency frameworks for downside risk management.
  • Build best-in-class portfolio monitoring systems using behavioural scoring frameworks; oversee segmentation strategies; track performance across key cohorts; and enable real-time decisioning through executive dashboards.
  • Introduce innovative risk methodologies such as AI/ML-driven models and alternative data sources; pilot new analytical approaches; scale predictive accuracy; and embed a culture of experimentation.
  • Build, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing credit risk team with clear succession planning while promoting ownership, analytical rigour, continuous learning, structured documentation, and training initiatives.
  • Serve as primary interface with C-suite executives, board members, regulators, external auditors; represent credit risk in executive forums; resolve cross-functional decisions; articulate firm’s credit risk narrative.

What you bring:

To excel as Head of Credit Risk in this organisation requires more than just technical mastery - you bring extensive experience managing complex credit portfolios within regulated environments such as banking or fintech. Your background includes hands-on involvement in developing sophisticated IFRS 9/ECL models along with direct responsibility for their ongoing governance. You are adept at leveraging programming languages like Python or R for statistical analysis while utilising SQL-based tools for robust data manipulation. Your approach is grounded in both analytical rigour and practical insight: you know how to interpret shifting market signals quickly so that frameworks remain responsive yet compliant. Beyond technical skills, your interpersonal abilities set you apart - you thrive when collaborating across departments or presenting nuanced recommendations at board level. You have built cohesive teams before by nurturing talent through mentorship programmes while championing knowledge sharing via structured documentation. Your passion for innovation ensures that new technologies are piloted thoughtfully then scaled effectively - always keeping long-term portfolio resilience front-of-mind.

  • Over ten years’ experience in credit risk roles within banking, fintech or consumer finance environments where you have managed end-to-end functions or large teams with proven results.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and governing IFRS 9/ECL models including deep familiarity with staging processes (SICR), core parameters (PD/LGD/CCF), portfolio analytics, model validation and audit engagement.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Python or R for statistical analysis; SQL for data extraction/manipulation; plus experience using data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI for executive reporting.
  • Track record engaging directly with regulators (e.g., Bank of Thailand), auditors or board-level stakeholders—translating complex technical concepts into concise recommendations supporting business objectives.
  • Experience driving automation initiatives across provisioning processes alongside adoption of advanced analytics infrastructure within high-growth organisations.
  • Ability to balance rigorous discipline around credit cost dynamics/profitability against broader commercial imperatives - demonstrating sound judgement under pressure.
  • Executive presence combined with excellent interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams including commercial/product leads.
  • Proven capability building high-performing teams: recruiting top talent; mentoring senior staff into future leaders; promoting continuous learning via structured documentation/training programmes.
  • Deep understanding of emerging technologies such as AI/ML-driven models or alternative data sources applied within financial services context.
