Central Purchasing Manager (Automotive)

Save job

A leading diversified automotive group in Bangkok is seeking a Central Purchasing Manager (x1 vacancy) to drive procurement excellence across multiple business units, including automotive manufacturing, industrial components, car rental, and dealership operations. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape group-wide purchasing strategies, enhance cost efficiency through category consolidation, and ensure supplier quality and compliance.

What you'll do:

As Central Purchasing Manager you will be entrusted with overseeing all procurement activities across four diverse subsidiaries. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve developing robust purchasing policies that unify practices across the organisation while establishing frameworks that optimise cost efficiency. You will play an integral role in consolidating supplier contracts to secure advantageous terms for the group.

The package includes base salary + performance bonus + provident fund

  • Develop and implement group-level purchasing policies, procedures, and approval structures applicable to all subsidiaries within the organisation.
  • Establish a centralised procurement framework for key categories to leverage volume discounts and improve overall cost efficiency across the group.
  • Consolidate supplier contracts by negotiating group-wide agreements that maximise value while maintaining high standards of supplier quality and compliance.
  • Define and monitor procurement KPIs such as cost savings achievements, supplier performance metrics, lead time reductions, and adherence to compliance requirements.
  • Supervise local purchasing teams at each subsidiary to ensure consistent standards are met and provide coaching or corrective guidance when necessary.
  • Approve or review high-value or sensitive purchases prior to final management sign-off to maintain transparency and control over expenditure.
  • Conduct regular procurement performance reviews with subsidiary teams to identify areas for improvement and foster a culture of continuous enhancement.
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties within purchasing functions while maintaining documentation integrity and strict adherence to internal control standards.
  • Coordinate with external consultants as required to support strategic initiatives or resolve complex procurement challenges.
  • Lead major supplier selection processes including evaluation, performance monitoring, periodic audits, negotiation of strategic contracts for shared categories such as automotive parts, consumables, logistics services, equipment supply, and service providers.

What you bring:

To excel as Central Purchasing Manager you will bring substantial experience from previous roles in procurement or supply chain management—ideally within automotive manufacturing environments where multi-site coordination is common. Your educational background equips you with foundational knowledge while your hands-on expertise allows you to navigate complex purchasing scenarios confidently. You possess advanced negotiation skills that enable you to secure favourable terms during contract discussions without compromising on quality or compliance standards. Analytical thinking helps you interpret expenditure trends so you can recommend effective cost-reduction strategies tailored to each subsidiary’s needs. Familiarity with ERP platforms supports your efforts towards digitalising records—a key component of modern procurement governance. Communication skills are paramount; they allow you to connect empathetically with team members from varied backgrounds while fostering an atmosphere of trustworthiness throughout the organisation. Integrity guides your actions especially when enforcing ethical practices or participating in audit reviews following irregularities. Collaborative spirit ensures smooth cross-functional coordination whether working alongside engineering departments on technical purchases or liaising with finance teams during budget planning cycles.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related field is essential for success in this role.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain management with a minimum of 5 years spent in managerial or group-level coordination positions is required.
  • Proven track record in automotive manufacturing or other manufacturing industries is highly preferred due to the nature of the subsidiaries involved.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills combined with strong supplier management capabilities are vital for achieving optimal contract terms and maintaining vendor relationships.
  • Advanced analytical abilities are needed to interpret spend analysis data and identify cost-saving opportunities across multiple business units.
  • Familiarity with procurement systems and ERP platforms such as SAP B1 is advantageous for driving digitalisation initiatives within the department.
  • Excellent communication skills in both Thai and English are necessary for managing diverse teams across different subsidiaries effectively.
  • High integrity coupled with a problem-solving orientation enables you to enforce ethical purchasing practices while resolving complex supplier issues.
  • Ability to lead cross-company initiatives through collaborative teamwork ensures alignment between purchasing functions at various sites.
  • Experience coordinating with finance teams for budget planning as well as internal audit departments for policy compliance strengthens your candidacy.
