Mid-Level Associate- IP Litigation Location: Bangkok Report to: Partner One of leading law firms in Thailand seeks a motivated Mid-Level Associate proficient in IP Litigation to join the well-established IP Division.

Mid-Level Associate- IP Litigation

The Mid-Level Associate is expected to have strong expertise and knowledge in litigation and dispute resolution and capabilities in rendering professional advice, with a particular focus on IP matters. You will enjoy a competitive salary and benefits for this role.

Key responsibilities:

Legal Practice

  • Provide a full range of legal services to protect and enforce clients’ IP rights, including providing advisory opinions, conducting legal research, performing investigations, conducting discovery, liaising with relevant government agencies, negotiating with opposing parties, etc.
  • Handle litigation, prosecution, registration, enforcement of IP rights and other case assignments.
  • Analyse and determine the legal strategy in cases to ensure effective and successful negotiation, litigation, prosecution, registration, IP enforcement; draft pleadings; prepare briefs and legal arguments; rehear witness testimony before a court.
  • Interview, select, and prepare witnesses, including experts for administrative hearing or trial.
  • Argue motions and participate in pre-trial or pre-hearing conferences.
  • Conduct direct and cross-examination and oral argument in proceedings before appropriate jurisdictional body, which may include jury trials.
  • Review records and prepare briefs and oral arguments in appeals to Supreme Court or other appellate body; prepare memoranda; analyse factual and legal issues; and draft decisions in proceedings.
  • Formulate legal strategies, provide legal opinions and analytical responses to clients, respond to inquiries, develop legal guides, complete questionnaires, and act as the primary point of contact for clients.
  • Perform legal research when and as necessary to resolve legal issues and determine the appropriate course of action regarding a particular issue/case.

Client Development

  • Take initiative in designing and implementing business development and marketing plans for Intellectual Property practice group for Thailand office and the firm’s overseas offices in the region.
  • Regularly publish articles and give presentations that increase the firm’s visibility, which results in new business opportunities.
  • Participate in crafting proposals and pitch for new business from current or prospective clients.
  • Identify and participate in relevant conferences as agreed partner(s)/department heads.
  • Take full ownership of work with minimal oversight from partner(s).
  • Effectively and efficiently manage projects and matters well.

Administrative Tasks

  • Manage other administrative tasks in professional and timely manners such as time recording, invoicing, billing and chasing aged-debt, matter opening, conflicts of interest, etc.

Key requirements

  • Qualified Thai lawyer with exceptional academic background.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a litigator in Thailand.
  • Knowledge of IP law and regulations.
  • Experience in IP litigation and enforcement work in Thailand preferred.
  • Communication skills – have excellent written and spoken skills in both Thai and English.
  • Organizational skills – be able to effectively manage multiple assignments and prioritize work.
  • Persuasion skills – be able to confidently persuade, articulate, and discuss legal issues, transactions, and strategies.
  • Legal mindset – be able to apply legal principles and draw on experience to develop legal strategies and solve legal problems.
  • Service mindset – demonstrate true commitment in achieving positive matter outcomes for clients and be able to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Commercial thinking – possess strong business acumen, keep up to date with market trends, and be able to identify business opportunities for the firm.
