A leading global manufacturer in the building materials sector is seeking a Research and Development Manager – Chemical/Plasters to drive innovation and product development for industrial plaster and joint compound products.

What you'll do:

As a Research and Development Manager – Plasters, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of industrial plaster products across regions.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve identifying emerging market needs, developing innovative solutions in partnership with cross-functional teams, and overseeing laboratory operations to ensure projects are executed efficiently.

• Identify opportunities for new manufacturing methods, product variations, and gaps in the market for new products that can be manufactured and supplied across regions
• Develop new products and technology for both industrial plaster and construction plaster in line with strategic business objectives.
• Allocate work effectively among laboratory personnel and coordinate with other functions to ensure successful execution of R&D projects.
• Collaborate closely with sales, category management, and plant teams to align product development initiatives with market requirements.
• Implement innovative processes to enhance product quality, ensuring customer satisfaction remains at the core of all activities.
• Monitor industry trends, standards, and competitive landscape to inform ongoing research efforts.
• Manage relationships with raw material suppliers to optimise sourcing strategies for R&D projects.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Research and Development Manager – brings extensive experience from the building materials or ceramics industry. Your academic background in engineering or chemistry equips you with the technical foundation needed to excel. You possess proven leadership qualities that enable you to guide multidisciplinary teams towards shared goals while maintaining open communication channels.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Civil) or Chemistry is required for this position.
• Over five years’ experience within the gypsum building materials or ceramics industry is essential; exposure to various aspects of gypsum, ceramic, industrial plaster, compound product development, and process is highly valued.
• Demonstrated leadership management skills combined with strong communication abilities are necessary for success in this role.
• Comprehensive understanding of product requirements, industry standards, market demands, and competitive landscape is expected.
• Prior R&D experience in a commercial setting where you have successfully commercialised innovative new products is strongly preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of raw materials as well as supplier management experience is important for effective project delivery.
• Hands-on laboratory skills are required along with a keen sense for experimental design and execution.
